36LY0345 Glunk

Today we went out to the Glunk site (36LY0345), where my goal for the day was to continue working on the wall separating excavation unit sixteen and seventeen.  We decided to go out to the site a little later than usual because it was supposed to rain during the morning hours, and we wanted to meet with some of the members of North Central Chapter Eight again because they dig on Thursdays.  I began by digging the south section of the wall.  I continued working in the stratagraphic levels that I had marked yesterday.  I found a nail and a few pieces of brick in the first level of the South section, which reflects the historic period that we believe extends from zero to ten inches.  I stopped at eight inches because at that point, the soil changed color, from dark brown dirt to a light brown sandy matrix.  After completing that section, I moved back to the North section, where there were no significant finds in the next level, which measured from eight to fourteen inches.  I repeated this step on the South section, bringing the wall to an even level at fourteen inches deep.  Seen below is a picture of the West wall of excavation unit sixteen, with popsicle sticks at points where the soil changed color, which marked the points that I would stop digging each level.
After bringing the wall to the fourteen inch level, I began helping the rest of the class on their excavation units.  I screened dirt for excavation unit seventeen in between helping make the walls of excavation unit eighteen strait.  I continued working in that manner until about five o'clock pm, where we began cleaning up our tools because only one member of North Central Chapter Eight had showed up.  We left the site at about six pm and went home for the day.
